Collecting and stabilizing RNA for molecular diagnostic testing presents challenges as RNA is inherently unstable and rapidly degrades within hours of blood collection.  Up- and down- regulation of transcripts can occur in vitro after blood collection through the process of gene induction, gene repression, and selective changes of transcript half-life. These changes of gene expression can lead to an under or overestimation of in vivo relative gene transcript numbers. A standardized blood RNA workflow helps to eliminate workflow challenges and to provide high yields of quality stabilized intracellular RNA for use in molecular diagnostic testing.
